My TL is paid off by this time next year and I want an Abarth (see name). Sadly I’ve fallen in love with having all the luxuries like cruise control, sat nav, heated seats, climate control, etc and just having an all out highway cruiser since my job makes me travel; I browsed around and found this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (I know this exact one won’t be for sale next year but if that’s the going price for the mileage and model yr that’s within my budget). What does Oppo think the stupid thing to buy is?

Just... Why are you getting something new when you just paid it off? Why would you do that to yourself? Why?

I’m more worried about having the transmission just shit itself one day and being stuck with that bill. I don’t think I’ll immediately jump into something new honestly

You mean I can buy *ME* this one! Swipe!

I thought the USDM Abarth 500’s had cruise and heated seats (ours don’t in Europe!). Tbh, if we didn’t have the DS4 as well for long distance stuff (it’s the fully loaded, most powerful engine model), then we probably wouldn’t have bought the Abarth as she’s not a great motorway cruiser, but we do have the DS4 so the Abarth makes a great city\fun 2nd car!

honestly not sure on how the US Abarths are specd

being 21 and living in NJ doesn’t help

Does NJ have high rates? Cause I am 23 and in California.

So you want something that’s fast when you need it, but still a good highway cruiser, with oodles of luxury items?
Get a Volvo.
Alternately, depending on budget and driving characteristics desired, I’d suggest looking at the following (with warranties, because work):
Mazdaspeed6, Volvo S/V60R, Ford Flex EcoBoost, Chrysler 200 (the newest one which I believe you can get with the same engine as the Abarth, and get an exhaust for it to get the same naughty noises from), Focus ST/RS, Jaguar XF (emphasis on the warranty), Range Rover Sport (ditto), Lincoln MKZ, Chrysler 300 (might be a bit large, but rides nicely; again, emphasis on the warranty), Infiniti G/M37, or a Mazda CX-5 (not the most powerful, but I just bought a 2016 Grand Touring and it satisfies most of those self-pampering urges).

I want something fun so that’s why i targeted the Abarth..but I’d miss all the luxuries I already have. As much as I love that list most’s way out of the budget. A volvo does sound pretty nice though

The Mazdaspeed 6 (and 3, but the 6 has a nicer interior and AWD) and the S/V60R should be under $12K for decent examples. Here in MO the higher-mileage ones are closer to $8K.
I’d also consider the idea of a Suzuki Kizashi or SX4 and tuning the hell out of it; not as nice as the Acura, of course, but buying cheaper allows for more budget to customize, and the Suzuki are surprisingly good platforms, and offered manuals on the top trims, IIRC.

funny enough already have a SX4 in the family. I’ve had a love for the Kizashi but haven’t found much in my area

So...is there anything wrong with your TL that you will need to replace it? Why not just keep driving it and enjoy having a car that’s paid for?

118k miles on a transmission known to explode at will. It wasn’t one recalled so it wasn’t fixed and it wasn’t rebuilt/replaced by original owner. I had it checked at by an Acura dealer at 115k and they said it was ok, but the idea of having a $2,000 rebuild still sits in the back of my head

Mine definitely has cruise control, heated seats were an option, and I have some kind of integrated tomtom option but just use my phone anyway cuz it’s easier.

the TL you know that the trans is good for a little more, you said that so yourself.
honestly? save 2k or w/e it is to get the trans rebuilt to a stronger spec (IIRC, there was a kit for tht) and keep driving that car for another 4 or so years.
because lets be honest here, aaside from the trans, TLs were pretty friggen resilient cars.
after those 2,3,4 w/e years, then shop around. you might like the no payments thing. then see if you really want something small high strung and italian.
and if you still want that, just get into motorcycles and get a used ducati after you learn to ride
